Poverty Line: Applying Mean, Median, Mode and Range
To your left you will find a map of South America (Click on this link for more information on South America). South America is made up of eight independent countries - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Let us observe Argentina. As of the year 2010, Argentina had a reported 41.09 million inhabitants recorded. From the year 1998 to the year 2012, the percentage of inhabitants below the poverty line (living with 1$ or less per day) were recorded.
Consider the following percentages:
In the year 1998: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 1999: 37% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2001: 37% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2003: 51.7% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2004: 44.3% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2007: 38.5% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2008: 23.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2009: 23.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2010: 13.9% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2011: 30% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2012: 30% of the population was below the poverty line.
Consider the following percentages:
In the year 1998: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 1999: 37% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2001: 37% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2003: 51.7% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2004: 44.3% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2007: 38.5% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2008: 23.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2009: 23.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2010: 13.9% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2011: 30% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2012: 30% of the population was below the poverty line.
Using this information, find the Mean, Median, Mode and Range (Note: There can be more than one Mode).
Let us now look at Paraguay. Here are the numbers, in percent (%) for the population below the poverty line starting from the year 1997 to the year 2010. In the year 2012, Paraguay had over 6.5 million inhabitants.
Consider the following percentages:
In the year 1997: 32% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2000: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2001: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2005: 32% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2008: 19.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2009: 18.8% of the population was below the poverty line.
in the year 2010: 34.7% of the population was below the poverty line.
Consider the following percentages:
In the year 1997: 32% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2000: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2001: 36% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2005: 32% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2008: 19.4% of the population was below the poverty line.
In the year 2009: 18.8% of the population was below the poverty line.
in the year 2010: 34.7% of the population was below the poverty line.
Using this information, find the Mean, Median, Mode and Range (Note: There can be more than one Mode).
